How to Pick Men's Winter Coats

As the winter approaches, you should be looking for coats that will help you brace the weather changes. The coat you go for should not only be of high quality but also stylish. You do not want to wear your ski parka out of town or to the office. Rather, a traditional men's coat that extends midway between you thigh and knee will work.

If you love fashion, you probably know the difference amongst a coat, Christmas jumpers and a jacket. For those who don't know, a coat is made of thicker, natural fabric to keep you warm while a jacket rests at your hip but does little to truly keep you warm. You cannot wear a jacket over a thick blazer of sweater.

Below are some tips you should follow to get a good winter coat.

i)             Check the Fabric

Understanding the fabric is one of the most important skills you should have when picking a winter coat. The best winter coats are made from cashmere and wool. Woolen coats are usually cheaper than cashmere ones. However, cashmere coats are far warmer and durable than the woolen ones. If your main concern when looking for a coat is warmth, go for one with a thin layer of goose down sewn into the typical lining.

ii)            Will the Coat Fit?

Finding a fitting coat is important when buying. Unlike other men's clothes like shorts or trousers that may need to be replaced quicker, coats are typically bought to last. To find a fitting coat, simply go up one size of your typical suit jacket size. With the extra size, you will be able to move easily within the layer binding your neck and shoulders. The shoulder seams should fall just over the edge of your shoulders.

It's acceptable to wear a coat over a suit for daily wear rather than the traditional topcoat. However, this will only work if you are wearing the coat before 6pm. If you are not sure of what coat to wear in the evenings, go with a thick sweater or blazer.

iii)           What Style Do You Like?

There are a variety of fashionable men's coats you can buy. The most fashionable options come in a variety of prices and styles. If you want a coat for formal occasions, go for gray and charcoal colored ones. These coats go well with navy, brown or black clothing. The coats can also be worn with corduroy or jeans trousers for weekend jaunts. For added details, research about Threadbare.
